Men’s Basketball Closes Out 2015 Home Schedule With Non-Conference Battle Versus Dominican

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Dec. 2, 2015) - Eventually it's going to happen for the Molloy College men's basketball team. Based upon prior performances and the fact that the Lions have held a lead in every contest played thus far, the maroon and white feel that win No. 1 could come Wedmesday (Dec. 2) as the Lions play host to the Dominican College Chargers at Quealy Gymnasium.

The Lowdown on the Lions
The maroon and white continue to struggle in the second half of contests, as the Lions dropped a 93-90 decision to Assumption College on Sunday (Nov. 29). Molloy led 48-41 at the halftime break with junior guard/forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) leading much of the charge on a game-high 28 points. Marquardt hit six three-pointers in the contest while senior point guard Brandon Williams added a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, but the Greyhounds controlled a 20-13 rebounding margin in the second half and hit 77% of their free throws to provide the ultimate difference in the game.

Getting The Lead, But Not Keeping It
The Lions have led at one point in every game they have played so far this season, yet have lost three halftime leads as the maroon and white attempt to figure out how to close out games in the 2015-16 campaign. Molloy is plus-five (194-189) in first half points but a staggering minus-50 (252-182) in second-half point totals, yielding 88.2 points per contest while only averaging 75.2 points per game.

Super Bowles
Senior forward Kevin Bowles (Wantagh, N.Y.) is making an immediate impact in his first true shot as a starter this season. Through five games, has has 9.4 points per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds per contest as well. Arguably, no player in the East Coast Conference has gotten off to a hotter start than the Wantagh native who finds himelf atop the ECC statistics with a 68% shooting efficiency from the field. Additionally, Bowles is knocking down 71% of his three-point shots and playing excellent defense with a team-high 10 blocks thus far.

The Chargers' Bulletin
It's been tough sledding for Dominican thus far as through six games, the Chargers have but one win against CACC rival Concordia College. The black and red are averaging 66 points per contest with sophomore forward Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scoring a team-best 11 points per game. The Chargers are shooting 44% from the field, 39% from deep range and a meager 58.6% from the free throw line so far this season.

O'Reilly vs. O'Reilly
Senior guard Sean O'Reilly (Colts Neck, N.J.) has a team-best 57.9% efficiency from behind the three-point line thus far this season for Dominican. The Colts Neck, N.J. native is also the brother of freshman guard Chris O'Reilly (Colts Neck, N.J.), who scored nine points in his first career start on Sunday versus Assumption. Not to give too much away, but there is a very good chance that the two will be on the court together at the same time.

The Dominican Anomaly
Last year, Dominican won just 14 games all season. But the Chargers were 14-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play, meaning the black and red were 0-8 out of conference action. Dominican also owns the most recent victory over Molloy, an 81-80 overtime triumph at the Dominican Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 18, 2011.
