(Nov. 10, 2015) - The Molloy College women's volleyball team could not stop momentum after Queens College celebrated its four seniors, then followed up with a three-set sweep of the Lions Tuesday evening at Fitzgerald Hall. Set scores favored the Knights in a close battle 25-21, 25-23 and 25-22.
Senior outside hitter
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) had a team-high seven kills and also notched nine digs in the match for the Lions (6-22, 4-11 ECC). Junior middle hitter
Spencer Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded five kills and four block assists while also obtaining a solo block on the night. The Lions were undone by their own hitting woes, committing 25 attack errors in the match on 105 total attempts. Junior setter
Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) collected three kills in four attack attempts with 16 assists and seven digs. Leading the defense was sophomore
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) who accumulated 17 digs in the effort.
The Knights were buoyed by its seniors, who were honored before the match for their contributions to the program. Arielle DiCocco (Bayport, N.Y.) had a team-high 12 kills on a .313 hitting clip with five block assists while right-side hitter Bianca Steele (Massapequa, N.Y.) added seven kills and three block assists. Libero Xhesi Domi (Selden, N.Y.) achieved a game-high 19 digs in the back row for Queens, which improves to 11-14 on the year and 7-8 in conference play. Sophomore setter Jessica Yin (Dongguan, China) dished out a match-best 26 assists for the Knights in the victory.
Molloy will wrap up the 2015 season on Saturday (Nov. 14) as the Lions head to Old Westbury to take on NYIT at Recreation Hall. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
