Volleyball Loses At Home To Bloomfield in Four Sets

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 27, 2015) - The Molloy College volleyball team staved off several match points in the fourth and final set against Bloomfield, but the Bears ultimately came away with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night at Quealy Gymnasium. Set scores favored the visitors 24-26, 25-22, 25-13, 26-24.

For Molloy (4-19), freshman outside hitter Jeanne Reinis (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) set a new career high with 17 kills, adding 12 digs for her first career double-double. Senior outside hitter Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) also posted a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, while junior setters Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) and Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) accumulated double-digit assists and digs totals on a night where defense reigned supreme. De Kruyf had a team-high 20 assists to go along with 17 digs and Stefanovski had 19 assists and 19 digs of her own in the match. Sophomore libero Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) had a strong night on defense, leading her team with 27 digs and freshman defensive specialist Meaghan Carr (Mineola, N.Y.) added three digs in her three sets of action. Out of the middle, junior Spencer Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) accrued eight kills and a team-high three block assists as freshman Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.) helped out with seven kills and a block assist of her own.

Leading Bloomfield (17-4) was junior outside hitter Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.) with 18 kills and 19 digs, while her teammate and countrywoman Diannmarie Rivera had 11 kills and 17 digs. Junior setter Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) dished out 18 assists and the back-row play of junior libero Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) collected a match-best 38 digs to keep the Bears on the attack for much of the match. The two sides combined for 95 kills on 354 total attacks with 193 digs on defense.

Molloy heads into the weekend with three more home matches, beginning with a conference tilt on Saturday (Oct. 31) against Daemen at noon in Rockville Centre.
