Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2015) – Despite coming back from one-set deficits twice in the match, the Molloy College volleyball team ultimately fell in a five-set contest at Daemen on Friday. Set scores from Lumsden Gymnasium favored the Wildcats: 25-20, 23-25, 25-14, 22-25 and 15-11.
Leading the Lions on the night was senior outside hitter
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) who totaled 10 kills and nine digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) had nine kills on a .280 hitting percentage and also accumulated 13 digs. Junior middle blocker
Grace Cookson (Alpine, Calif.) acquitted herself nicely with eight kills, five digs, three service aces and three block assists for the maroon and white. Meanwhile, junior setter
Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) led the team with 22 assists while also achieving five kills on nine total attacks and racking up seven digs. Lastly, sophomore libero
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) had a team-high 14 digs and dished out three assists of her own.
Molloy (2-13, 0-2 ECC) fell victim to the home side's powerful front row attack as Daemen (7-8, 2-0 ECC) totaled 65 kills and collected a .256 hitting percentage. Additionally, the Wildcats pummeled eight kills on 15 attacks with no errors in the final set for a dominating .533 hitting clip. In particular, red-shirt senior middle blocker Ye Wang (Beijing, China) launched 18 kills and collected a .485 hitting percentage to lead the Wildcats to their second victory in conference action. On the outside, twins Ashley and Amber Dryzmala (West Seneca, Ohio) combined for 29 kills and 31 digs in the victory while sophomore setter Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y.) dished out a game-high 54 assists.
Molloy will conclude its Western New York trip by facing Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday (Oct. 3) in an 11 a.m. start from the Voller Athletic Center in Rochester, N.Y.
