Men's Soccer Topped by Merrimack, 4-1

Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (Sep. 8, 2014) - On Monday night, the Molloy College men's soccer team traveled to North Andover, Mass. to play its second game of the young 2014 campaign. The Lions will unfortunately have to wait until Saturday to see if they can earn their first win of the season as the Chargers defeated Molloy, 4-1. Molloy fell to 0-1-1, while Merrimack improved to 2-0 overall.

The Chargers scored in the 18th, 28th, 33rd and 40th minutes of the first half to take a 4-0 lead heading into the intermission. The Lions came out strong defensively in the second half as they blanked the Chargers, holding them at bay. Offensively for Molloy, the players weren't able to muster anything against the Merrimack defense or its goalkeeper, Jose Silva. The Lions did receive a goal on the scoreboard in the 84th minute of regulation to cut their deficit to 4-1 as the ball deflected off a Merrimack defender, going in as an own-goal.

In net, senior Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made five saves for the Lions.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field on Saturday, Sep. 13 for their home opener versus Adelphi University. That game is slated to get underway at 7 p.m. from the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y.  If you're unable to attend the match, LiveStats and a complete audio/video broadcast via the Lions Sports Network will be available right here on MolloyLions.com.
