Volleyball Falls in Pair of Matches in Texas

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Sep. 6, 2014) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's volleyball team was slated for two opposite start times in their matches, but came away with the same result. At 10 a.m. EST, the Lions squared off with Northwestern Oklahoma State University, falling 3-1, and then played Cameron University at 8 p.m. EST, dropping that contest, 3-0. After their participation in the Midwestern State University Hampton Inn Tournament, Molloy now stands at 1-3 on the season.

Northwestern Okla. State 3, Molloy 1 (24-26, 20-25, 25-18, 18-25)

Down two sets to none, the Lions were able to pull to within one set with a 25-18 victory in the third. The Lions mounted a seven-point swing, which resulted in increasing their lead to 14-9 midway through the third set. Later on, a six-point burst from Northwestern Okla. State cut its deficit to 17-16, but the Lions notched seven of the set's next nine points to seal the 25-18 set-win. The fourth set, however, didn't go in Molloy's favor as Northwestern Okla. won by the same score that the Lions did a set earlier.

Junior Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) had a team-high 12 kills, while sophomore Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) distributed 37 assists. Danielle Williams and rookie Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) each had 16 digs to pace the squad. Senior Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) had four service aces.

Cameron 3, Molloy 0 (19-25, 14-25, 11-25)

As Molloy's second match of the day went on, its opponent limited the Lions' points in decreasing fashion across the three-set sweep. Molloy scored 19 in the opening set, then 14 in the middle, and finally, 11 in the third set. For the Lions, junior Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) had five kills, De Kruyf had 16 assists, and Escobar and Berna combined for 27 digs.

Head Coach Billy Corrao and the Lions return to the hardwood on Monday, Sep. 8 when they host Post University at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions' home opener will get underway at 6 p.m.  LiveStats and video will be available at MolloyLions.com.
