Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2014) - On Tuesday evening, the Molloy College women's volleyball team ventured to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on non-league opponent Pace University. With the help of a combined 36 kills from their top-4 hitters, the Lions handled the Setters with a three-set sweep; recording scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-16. With the win, the Lions are now 6-7 overall, while the Setters fall to 3-9 on the season.
Sophomore
Grace Cookson (San Diego, Calif.) and junior
Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) combined for 20 kills -- amassing 10 each -- to help Molloy to the victory. Junior
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) and senior
Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) each had eight kills. Sophomore setter
Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) posted 25 assists to lead the match, while rookie libero
Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) grabbed 16 digs to top the Lions.
In the first set, the Lions built a quick 8-1 lead. That momentum never swung away from them as the closest the Setters would get for the rest of the set was four points. However, immediately following Pace coming to within four, the Lions ripped off an 8-1 run to lead Pace, 19-8. Molloy would close out the set on a 6-3 burst.
The middle set proved to be the closest as Pace scored 20 points, still falling to Molloy's 25. In the third set, the score remained close as neither team led by more than 3-5 points at a time. Molloy was able to cruise to the set- and match-victory by claiming 11 of the set's final 14 points.
