Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2014) - The Molloy College men's soccer team not only earned its first win of the 2014 campaign on Wednesday night, but did so in thrilling, upset fashion against East Coast Conference-foe LIU Post, 5-4 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, the Lions improved to 1-4-1 overall (1-1-0 ECC), while the Pioneers fell to 4-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.
The scoring frenzy started in the eighth minute of the game when Molloy senior midfielder
Hamza Elotmani (Casablanca, Morocco) scored the first goal of his 2014 season via a bicycle kick from about 10 yards out. Junior
George Sinacore (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) had the assist on a throw-in from the sidelines. The Pioneers found the equalizer in the 23rd minute when Dale McDonald netted a tally off a feed from Jason Lampkin. Molloy scored once more before the intermission to take a 2-1 lead when senior back
Dane Leavy (St. Petersburg, Fla.) registered his first collegiate goal in the 41st minute.
Following halftime, the Lions took a 3-1 lead on Elotmani's second goal of the game. The Morocco native found the back of the netting in the 51st minute, scoring off a rebound. LIU Post scored the next two goals to tie the game at 3-3 as Lampkin scored twice -- in the 61st and 66th minutes.
The Lions' junior back
Ryan Fackner (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored via a header off a cross from fellow junior
Stephen Polimeni (Bellmore, N.Y.) in the 75th minute. That marker gave Molloy a 4-3 lead. That advantage lasted 10 minutes as LIU Post senior forward Eivind Austboe scored to knot the game at 4-all. Then, from 25 yards out, Molloy senior
Joey Pinto (Lynbrook, N.Y.) blasted a free kick into the goal to put the Lions ahead, 5-4. Pinto scored in the 88th minute of regulation, which ended up being the deciding goal of the game.
Molloy won against most odds. LIU Post outshot the Lions, 24-9, and held the margin in corner kicks as well (7-2). In net, Molloy senior goalkeeper
Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made eight saves against a very good Pioneers' offense (16 goals entering tonight's contest).
