Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sep. 20, 2014) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's volleyball team moved back to .500 with a 3-1 win over Assumption College and a 3-2 victory against Philadelphia University as the Lions hosted a tri-match at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. In between those two matches, Assumption defeated Philadelphia, 3-2.
With the wins, the Lions are now 5-5 on the 2014 campaign.
Molloy 3, Assumption 1 (Score by Set: 30-28, 21-25, 25-23, 25-15) The Lions played an epic amount of volleyball today and it certainly started with the opening set versus the Greyhounds. Molloy had to work hard to go up 1-0 in the set, having to hit the 30-point mark to secure the mandated win-by-two margin. Assumption won its only set of the match in the second set, 25-21. The Lions went on to win a tight set in the third and then coast to the match-victory with a 25-15 triumph in the final and deciding set.
In the morning's opening match, junior
Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) had a terrific game, recording 15 kills via a .344 attack percentage, while sophomore
Tia McCord (North Olmstead, Ohio) smacked down 13 kills. Both were their season-high marks for kills. Sophomore
Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) had 36 assists, while fellow sophomore
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) had 11. Rookie libero
Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) picked up 17 digs. Senior
Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) had five service aces.
Molloy 3, Philadelphia 2 (Score by Set: 16-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13)In a true see-saw, back-and-forth affair, the Rams won the first and third set, while the Lions won sets number two and four. The teams matched up evenly as three out of the first four sets' final scores had a point-differential of six or lower. The fifth and deciding set witnessed the Lions jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Rams went on to score three straight to tie the score, before each team exchanged points into double-digits territory. With the score knotted at 11-all, Molloy scored the next two points on Rams' attacking errors. Philadelphia grabbed one of those points back, before sophomore
Spencer Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched a kill to increase Molloy's lead to 14-12. Following another point from the Rams and a timeout called by Lions' Head Coach

Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) recorded the match-clinching kill.
De Kruyf and Escobar set new season-highs in this match, as the former dished out 50 assists and the latter scooped up 29 digs. Berna recorded 16 kills, while McCord had 14 -- a new season-high for her, eclipsing the mark she set earlier in the day versus Assumption.
