Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sep. 20, 2014) - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College men's soccer squad was shutout by Mercy College in the 2014 East Coast Conference opener by the final score of 3-0 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 1-4 (1-0 ECC), while the Lions fell to 0-4-1 (0-1 ECC).
The Mavericks netted an early goal in the 11th minute off the head of Jonathan Garcia. The goal was assisted by Danny Leon Jr.'s corner kick.
That was the only scoring action of the game for the next 73 minutes. Each team had plenty of opportunities to score -- Mercy held the slight edge in shots, 13-11, while Molloy doubled up the Mavericks in the corner kiks department, 4-2.
In the 84th minute of the contest, Mercy's Ryan Flynn scored the team's second goal, and then scored again just two minutes later. Andrew Levy assisted on Flynn's first tally, while Tafari Newman was the helper on the second.
