Men's Soccer Downed by Adelphi in Tight Contest, 2-0

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sep. 13, 2014) - On Saturday night, the Molloy College men's soccer team hosted its home opener at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex versus Adelphi University. This match was tightly-contested from the get-go, showcasing heart, hustle and a constant driving rain. Despite Molloy's best efforts, the Panthers came away with the 2-0 triumph to improve to 2-1 overall. The Lions drop to 0-2-1 on the young season.

Both squads played to a scoreless first half, with Adelphi outshooting Molloy, 9-2. However, in the second stanza, the shots were even at five each, and the Lions held the advantage in corner kicks (3-1). The Panthers made two of their shots count, though, as in the 59th and 90th minutes, Adelphi scored. The first marker was scored by Michelangelo Sini off a shot from Diego Zuniga. Running right in front of Molloy senior goalkeeper Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Sini's heel tapped the ball into the netting.

The Panthers' second goal came with five seconds left in regulation. Chris Joseph chipped the ball in over Corke from approximately 30 yards out. The assist was from John Stojcevski.

Senior Hamza Elotmani (Casablanca, Morocco) was the only Lion with a shot on-goal tonight. Corke made three saves in net.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions will next host Caldwell University on Wednesday, Sep. 17 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. under the lights. LiveStats and an audio/video broadcast will be available right here at MolloyLions.com.
