(Sep. 11, 2014) - The Molloy College women's volleyball team was behind two sets to none against Southern Connecticut State University on Thursday evening before mounting a tremendous comeback. The Lions took sets three, four and five to earn the victory, 3-2 at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, the Lions improved to 2-4 overall, while the Owls fell to 1-4 on the campaign.

Molloy played the first two sets hard, but ultimately fell short by five and four points, respectively. In that third set, however, the Lions absolutely dominated the Owls, holding them to single digits in the points department. The Lions had their work cut out for them as they still had to win the final two sets. Throughout the fourth set, the point differential remained 1-3 points every serve. Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) kills and one
Spencer Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) kill.
In the fifth and deciding set, with the score tied 10-10, Molloy was able to record the final five consecutive points to earn its first home victory of the season. Berna had three kills, while
Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) had another.
For Molloy, Berna had 17 kills,
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) posted 16 kills, and Appel recorded 14 kills. Sophomore setter
Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) had 41 assists, while Berna paced the team in digs (20). Freshman libero
Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and Palmer scooped up 17 and 15 digs, respectively. Moreover, Escobar had four service aces tonight.

Billy Corrao and the Lions return to the court on Tuesday, September 16 when they host Queens College and begin East Coast Conference-play. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
