Men's Basketball Falters at Daemen, 111-72

Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2014) - On Friday night, the Molloy College men's basketball team was defeated by East Coast Conference-opponent Daemen College, 111-72 in Amherst, N.Y. The Lions had three players in double-digit scoring, but the Wildcats' 59.4% shooting clip proved to be too much. With the victory, Daemen improved to 16-6 on the season and 13-3 in the conference, while Molloy dropped to 11-10 overall and 8-5 in the ECC. 

With four minutes gone by in the opening stanza, Daemen's Uchechi Ogbonna broke an 8-8 tie with a free throw and sparked a 12-1 run. That spurt lasted from the 16:17 mark to the 13:13 mark. The Wildcats never looked back as they powered through the remaining minutes of the first half, closing out the period on a 12-0 run. Daemen built its lead up to 31 points (58-27). 

Daemen never led by less than 31 points in the second period and saw a highwater-mark of 45 points (103-58, 6:40). 

For the Lions, senior John Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed six boards, while junior Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) had 12 points. Freshman Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored 10 points off the bench, going 2-for-6 from behind the arc. Molloy shot just 38.2% from field goal range in the contest. 

For the Wildcats, Jordan Greene notched a game-best 20 points, while Kadeem Johnson netted 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Casey Sheehan, Gerald Beverly and Ogbonna added 17, 16 and 14 points, respectively.
