Men's Basketball Handles ECC-Rival Mercy Easily, 91-60

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2014) - With five different players scoring double-digits and all but one member of the roster putting points on the board, the Molloy College men's basketball team crushed East Coast Conference-rival Mercy College, 91-60 at Quealy Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. Senior forward John Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the game with 19 points, while senior center Tyler Hammett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds. With the win, the Lions improved to 13-10 overall and 10-5 in the league, which ranks them third in the ECC standings. Following the defeat, the Mavericks dropped to 2-20 overall and 2-14 in the league.

From the 10:10 mark through the intermission, the Lions held a double-digit lead over the Mavericks. Besides the first few minutes when the teams traded a few buckets back-and-forth, Molloy nailed this victory down from early-on. At halftime, Molloy led, 56-27.

Thirty seconds into the second half, Hammett drained a jumpshot to put his team's lead over 30 points. The Mavericks cut it down to 25 at one point, but that was the closest they would get to their opponents. Off the bench in the final seven minutes of the game, Molloy received solid play out of sophomore guard Maurice Gatson (New York, N.Y.), who scored five points and had two rebounds, while freshman forward Joe Campay (East Meadow, N.Y.), brought energy to the hardwood.

Freshman forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored 15 points, nailing three shots from behind the arc, while freshman guard Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.) netted 10 points.

For the Mavericks, Olajide Keshinro had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Terrance Murchie netted 13 points.

UP NEXT: Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions will host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, February 15. The opening tipoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. A Make-A-Wish "Wish Celebration" will occur prior to the men's game -- a special event not to be missed.
