Molloy 27Despite being eliminated from playoff contention this past weekend, the Lions played with passion for the entire duration of the match. After winning the first set and falling in the second, Molloy pushed Dowling to find extra points to secure the third and fourth sets.
The Lions posted a .353 attack percentage with 15 kills in that opening set. However, in the next three they didn't hit above .151, while Dowling didn't hit above .170 for the whole match.
A 3-0 run late in the third set helped Molloy inch closer to a set-win (score was tied at 24-24) and closer to taking the match-lead, but a Lions' attack error and a Golden Lions' service ace sealed it for Dowling. Then, in the final set, trying to stay alive and force a fifth game, Molloy remained close to Dowling's points. Molloy continued to record every other point to push the set past the usual 25-point threshold. Unfortunately, Dowling found the match's last three points on two kills and an attack error to secure its 19th win of the year.
For the Lions, junior
Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) had 13 kills, while senior
Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) posted 12. Sophomore setter
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) dished out 39 assists, while rookie libero
Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) scooped up 36 digs.
