Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 1, 2014) - On Saturday, the Molloy College volleyball team battled late, but was swept by Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York. The Lions fall to 11-15 overall and 5-8 in the East Coast Conference. Roberts Wesleyan is now 14-9 overall and 10-5 in the conference. The Redhawks took the match by scores: 25-19, 25-22 and 28-26. Sophomore setter Ally De Kruyf (Norwalk, Calif.) broke Karen Quiambao's 2006 record for the most assists in a single Molloy season -- with 29 in today's match, she now has 655 for the year.

The Redhawks' .375 team hitting percentage paved the way for a first-set victory. The Lions trailed 12-6 before tallying three of the next four points to trail 13-9.  Six of the next seven points by the home team gave the Redhawks their largest lead at 19-10.  A pair of kills by seniors Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.), followed by two service aces by junior Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) put pressure on Roberts Wesleyan as it led, 19-14. Molloy would bring it to four points two different times, but ended up falling in the first set, 25-19.

Both squads continued to trade points throughout the second set. Neither team led by more than three points, before a 5-0 run by the Redhawks would overtake the lead for a 24-21 advantage. Molloy would survive one set-point, but ultimately lost, 25-22.

Set number three started similarly as the previous one. Tied at 9-9, three Molloy errors contributed to a 5-0 Redhawks run and a 14-9 lead. The Lions scored five of the next six points via two kills by D. Williams, and a service ace to tie up the set at 15-15. The two sides traded points before a 4-0 run by Molloy gave them a 22-21 advantage -- its first since early in the set.  Tied at 25-all, the Lions had the set-point after an Appel kill. Three straight errors by Molloy College clinched the match for the Redhawks.

Berna led all Lions in kills with 10, along with two service aces.  D. Williams contributed with nine kills to add to her team-lead in that category. De Kruyf added eight digs and four blocks to her 29 assists. Rookie libero Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, N.Y.) registered nine of Molloy's 43 total digs.

Head Coach Billy Corrao and his squad will have a quick turnaround when the Lions face Daemen College tomorrow at 11 a.m.  The Lions swept the Wildcats at Quealy Gymnasium on October 4. Molloy posted a .307 attack percentage in the match, its second-best to date.
