Men's Soccer Headed to ECC Playoffs After 1-1 Draw Versus Bridgeport!

Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 1, 2014) - On Saturday, the Molloy College men's soccer team earned the fourth and final seed in the 2014 East Coast Conference Postseason Tournament when it played the University of Bridgeport to a 1-1 draw. Today's result eliminated Roberts Wesleyan College and Bridgeport from postseason contention, while locking up the third seed for Dowling College. NYIT owns the 1-seed, while LIU Post has the 2-seed.

With today's win, the Lions close out the 2014 regular season with a 5-10-2 record and a mark of 5-4-1 in the ECC. Following the loss, the Purple Knights fell to 5-9 (4-5-1 ECC). 

Bridgeport scored the first goal of today's affair when Simon Haakansson found the back of the netting in the 13th minute. Molloy remained patient, eventually finding the equalizer in the 40th minute when senior midfielder Hamza Elotmani (Casablanca, Morocco) netted his fifth goal of the season. Senior back Dane Leavy (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was responsible for the assist.

The Purple Knights led the game with 22 shots, while Molloy mustered 14. Freshman Lucas Munoz (Hicksville, N.Y.) notched seven of those, while senior Joey Pinto (Lynbrook, N.Y.) had four. Bridgeport held the edge in corner kicks, 8-2.

Between the pipes, senior netminder Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made six saves for Molloy, while Bridgeport's Agustin Prados made six as well.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the fourth-seeded Lions will take on the top-seeded New York Institute of Technology on Thursday, November 6 in the semifinal round of the ECC Tournament.
