Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2014) - On Thursday evening, the Molloy College women's volleyball team improved to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the East Coast Conference with a 3-1 victory over Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. With 11 matches remaining on the campaign, Molloy is one win shy of how many victories it recorded last year. Following the loss, the Mavericks are now 4-14 (0-8 ECC).

In sets number one, two and four, the score was tightly-contested throughout. However, in set number three -- and with the match tied 1-1 -- Molloy set itself apart from its opponent. Late in the third set, the Lions smashed down 10 kills -- four of which belonged to senior
Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) and two apiece swatted down by senior
Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and sophomore
Grace Cookson (San Diego, Calif.) -- to notch the victory and go up 2-1 in the game. While the fourth set had little breathing room, the Lions eventually pulled out a two-point set-victory to earn the league triumph.
On the match, Appel led the team with 11 kills, while sophomore setter
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) had 16 assists. Freshman libero
Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.) had 18 digs and three service aces. Junior
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) paced the match with four service aces (one more than the entire Mavericks' squad), to go along with seven kills and four assists.
