Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2014) - On Tuesday evening, the Molloy College women's volleyball team kept it close, but was swept by visiting East Coast Conference-foe the University of Bridgeport, 3-0. With the win, the Purple Knights improved to 17-2 overall and stayed perfect in the conference at 12-0. The Lions fell to 10-12 and 5-6 in ECC play.

Bridgeport won the match in three straight sets by the scores 25-17, 25-23 and 25-23.

The Lions traded points with the Purple Knights in the early portion of the first set. They would lead 11-10, their last advantage before Bridgeport answered with six of seven points. The visiting squad eventually scored the last four points to take set number one.

In set two, Molloy took an early 8-2 lead after Bridgeport committed five errors. Two separate six-point leads would vanish as the Purple Knights stormed back scoring eight of nine for a 12-11 advantage. The Lions retained the lead on a 4-0 run with a kill from senior
Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.), and another from junior
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.)Â along with a service ace. Molloy held a 23-22 lead before Bridgeport's three straight points won the second set.

The third set saw Molloy own a lead until 13-12, their last in the match. Three kills and a service ace from senior
Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.), along with three more kills from Berna would contribute to the early advantage. A
Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) kill cut the defecit to 24-23 before a Bridgeport kill clinched the match for the Purple Knights.

Appel led the Lions in kills with nine. Both Berna and D. Williams contributed with six kills each. Freshman libero
Samira Escobar (Fountain Valley, Calif.)Â recorded 17 digs and sophomore
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) had 16 assists along with seven digs.Â

Billy Corrao's squad returns to Quealy Gymnasium on Thursday when the Lions host local ECC-opponent LIU Post at 6 p.m. The Pioneers are currently 13-11 overall, and 8-4 in the conference. They are coming off a 3-1 loss at the hands of Dowling College. The Pioneers swept the Lions in their only other meeting on the season on September 25.
