Men's Basketball Rolls Past NYIT for Eighth Straight Victory

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2014) - Behind 26 points from senior forward John Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) and 12 points each from rookie forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and junior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.), the Molloy College men's basketball squad cruised past the New York Institute of Technology for its eighth consecutive victory, 87-58. With the win, the Lions are now 10-7 overall and 7-2 in the league, now ranked second in the ECC standings. Following the loss, the Bears fell to 8-8 on the season and 6-4 in the conference.

Through the first 13 and a half minutes of the opening stanza, the two teams saw the score tied a total of six times. From the 6:39 mark, the Lions notched a lopsided 17-3 run to take a 43-29 lead at the intermission. Petrucelli scored seven of those 17 points.

In the second half, the Lions' smallest lead was 14 points, while their highwater-mark of the period was 31, en route to their 87-58 ECC triumph.

In addition for Molloy, senior center Tyler Hammett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had 10 points, while sophomore guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) distributed five assists.

For the Bears, Markus Moore was their only player in double-digit scoring with 12 points, while also having three blocks and three assists. Jahleel Felix had nine points, while Kachi Nzerem added eight.

UP NEXT: Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions return to the hardwood on Tuesday, Jan. 28 when they play at ECC-rival Queens College. The opening tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.

QUEENS QUICK HIT: The Knights are currently 3-13 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
