Marquardt Hits Six Three-Pointers, Helping Men's Basketball Down UDC, 101-73

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 15, 2014) - On Wednesday evening, the Molloy College men's basketball team received a 36-point scoring output from senior forward John Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) and saw freshman forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) go 6-for-7 from behind the three-point line in a 101-73 winning effort over the University of D.C. in our nation's capital. With the victory, the Lions improved to 7-7 on the year and 5-2 in the conference. Molloy currently has sole possession of second place in the ECC standings. Following the loss, the Firebirds slipped to 3-10 on the year and 1-6 in league play.

The 101 points was the highest scoring output for the Lions as a team this season; the first time they eclipsed triple digits.

The Lions scored 38 points in the first half to UDC's 30, thanks in large part to shooting 51.5% from the floor (17-for-33). Depsite being up by 10 points halfway through the opening stanza, the Firebirds slowly clawed their way back into the contest. With 6:44 left, Omar Abbas drained a three-ball to cut UDC's deficit to 22-20.

Although the first half's stats for Molloy were terrific, the second period's were even better. The Lions shot an incredible 65.8% from field goal range, pouring in 25 buckets in 38 tries. Six three-pointers were notched for the Lions, with a trio of them coming from Marquardt. Junior forward Richard Zoller (Syosset, N.Y.) had a nice game off the bench for Molloy. He scored all of his 10 points in the second half giving the guests a big boost.

For the entire second period the Lions continued to mount a larger and larger lead, with its highest margin coming with 2:24 left (93-61).

For the Lions, Petrucelli finished with 36 points, three shy of his career-high, while adding six steals, three assists and five rebounds. Marquardt recorded 18 points on 6-for-7 from downtown, while freshman guard Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.) scored 13 points. Sophomore guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) dished out a game-high six assists.

For UDC, Abbas poured in 26 points, while Clenso Brannon III netted eight points and brought down 10 boards. Prince Ritson and Lenjo Kilo had 21 and 14 points, respectively.

UP NEXT: Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions return to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 when they travel to Nyack, N.Y. to battle Nyack College at 3 p.m.
