Men's Soccer Defeats Daemen, 4-1, to Even Record at 3-3

Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2013) - On Sunday, the Molloy College men's soccer squad was able to even its overall record at 3-3 with a 4-1 victory over East Coast Conference-opponent Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y. With the triumph, the Lions improve their league ledger to 2-0. Following the loss, the Wildcats fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the ECC.

Very early on in the game, Molloy found the back of the netting. Junior Hamza Elotmani (Casablanca, Morocco) scored an unassisted goal off a block. In the 34th minute of the contest, Daemen's Alex Reid notched the equalizer with a shot to the right side of the net. Matthew Cordovani was responsible for the assist.

Right before the intermission, Molloy senior Mario Gagliano (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored off a pass from sophomore Ibrahima Diarra (Hollis, N.Y.) to turn the score to 2-1. That would remain as the two teams headed into halftime.

Gagliano struck again in the 69th minute with a shot into the lower right corner of the goal, off a feed from redshirt-freshman Nyder Chardonnette (Uniondale, N.Y.). Junior Mathias Coni (Oceanside, N.Y.) was responsible for the final Molloy goal today when he put one past Daemen's goalkeeper in the 89th minute. He scored on a header off a cross from senior Dan Brown (Queens, N.Y.).

Between the pipes for the Lions, redshirt-junior Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made three saves in the win, while his counterpart, Daniel Romer, made three as well for the Wildcats.

Molloy recorded more than double the amount of shots that Daemen did (24-10), while also holding the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25 when they host ECC-nemesis Dowling College at 7:00 p.m. at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex. If you're unable to attend the game, LiveStats and an audio broadcast will be available via www.MolloyLions.com.
