Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2013) - On Tuesday evening, the Molloy College women's volleyball squad headed over to Garden City, N.Y. for a non-conference sparring with the Adelphi University Panthers. The match ended up being a thrilling back-and-forth competition. Adelphi took the first set, 25-16, before Molloy won set number two, 25-20. The Panthers earned the hard-fought win in set three, 29-27, before the Lions tied it up with a 25-12 win in set four. The fifth set, appropriately so, was see-sawing until Adelphi was able to win the final tilt, 15-13.
With the victory, the Panthers improved to 2-4 overall, while the Lions dropped to 4-4 on the year.
The Lions were led in the kills department by sophomore
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.), who racked up 12. Junior
Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) added 10 kills. Freshman
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) and junior
Kerry MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) distributed 21 assists each, while senior
Euginia Anthony (Jamaica, N.Y.) grabbed 24 digs. Palmer and Berna had 11 digs each. Rookie
Spencer Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the match with four blocks.
Head Coach
Billy Corrao and his team will next hit the sky and fly down to Saint Leo, Fla. to compete in the Saint Leo Tournament. On Friday, Sept. 20, the Lions will battle Saint Leo University at 7:00 p.m., which will be followed by a pair of matches versus South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Columbus State University on Saturday, Sept. 21.
