Men's Soccer Edged by Merrimack in Home Opener, 1-0

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2013) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Molloy College men's soccer team hosted Merrimack College in its 2013 home opener at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The Warriors received a goal in the 25th minute of play from Michael Buraczynski and were able to hold on for the rest of the game to defeat the Lions, 1-0.

A header from Molloy redshirt-senior Jovani Ramos (Valley Stream, N.Y.) with 21 seconds remaining in regulation grazed the right post and went wide, much to the dismay of the home fans. Molloy also nearly scored in the 19th minute when Merrimack's goalkeeper Jose Silva came out too far, which allowed Molloy redshirt-junior Joey Pinto (Lynbrook, N.Y.) to dribble past him. In a miraculous deflection, Silva swatted the shot away diving from behind Pinto.

In net for the Lions, redshirt-junior Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.) stopped six shots. Silva made four saves for Merrimack.

Merrimack held the advantage in shots (17-11), while the Lions led in the corner kick department (6-3).

Head Coach Danny Longo and his troops return to the field on Friday when the Lions host the University of New Haven at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex. The opening whistle is slated for 4:00 p.m.
