Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Dec. 22, 2013) - The Molloy College men's basketball team completed a successful week going 2-0 against East Coast Conference opponents, besting Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday afternoon, 94-83 at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, Molloy improved to 4-7 on the year and 3-2 in the league. Meanwhile, following the defeat, the Redhawks fell to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The Lions had built up an 11-point advantage (18-7) after eight minutes went by in the opening stanza. Molloy's highwater-mark for the half was 12 points as the hosts achieved this lead a few minutes later. At the intermission, Molloy was on top of Roberts Wesleyan, 47-39.
Starting at the 16:17 mark of the second half, the Redhawks went on an 8-0 run to pull to within two of tying the score. The Lions didn't allow that from happening, however, as they scored five straight on a lay-up from sophomore forward
Chucks Obunse (Saint Albans, N.Y.) and a three-ball from freshman forward
Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.). With 4:23 remaining in regulation, Molloy knocked off eight unanswered points, which ultimately sealed the deal for the win. Over the final three minutes of the contest, the Redhawks couldn't cut their deficit further than nine points.
For Molloy, senior forward
John Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored 24 points, while recording six rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block. Junior guard
Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) contributed 20 points, while sophomore guard
Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) poured in 18. Marquardt notched 14 points, going 2-for-4 from three-point range. Senior center
Tyler Hammett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks. As a team, Molloy shot 54.1% from field goal range.
For Roberts Wesleyan, Isaac Medeiros scored 24 points and had seven boards, while Tyrel Dixon netted 16 points. Patrick Downer and Herbert Alexander recorded 14 and 10 points, respectively.
