Petrucelli Pours in 23, McLeod Records Double-Double to Help Men's Basketball Cruise Past Queens, 69-50

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2013) - Senior forward John Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 23 points, while junior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) had 10 points and 12 rebounds, to help the Molloy College men's basketball squad defeat Queens College in East Coast Conference play, 69-50 at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y.  With the win, the Lions improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Following the loss, the Knights slipped to 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in the ECC.

At the 10:06 mark, the Lions led, 11-9. The Knights grabbed the lead with a 12-0 run to jump in front of their hosts, 21-11. That burst spanned two minutes and saw Jason Henry and Patrick Parker score five points each. Over the next two minutes, the Lions stormed back with a 9-0 spurt. Petrucelli had six points, including a fastbreak dunk off his own steal to close out the run. That slam cut Molloy's deficit to 21-20.

The two teams traded points and the Lions walked into the locker rooms with a 26-25 advantage. Sophomore Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) drove in a lay-up to put his team ahead with four seconds before the buzzer sounded.

At the second stanza's 14:36 timestamp, Queens' Tommie Starkes drained a three-pointer to knot the score at 36-all. That would be the final time that the Knights either held a lead or had the score tied. From 14:36 to 7:46, Molloy put together an incredible 16-0 run, which ended up being the proverbial nail in the coffin for the Knights. Molloy cruised the rest of the way, earning the 69-50 triumph.

For the Lions, Petrucelli finished with 23 points for his season-high thus far, while McLeod scored 10 points and brought down 12 rebounds. Williams scored 13 points, while senior Tyler Hammett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added 12 points and five boards. Moreover, Williams had five assists. Petrucelli stole the ball away six times.

For Queens, Parker and Henry scored 13 points each, while Amir Tarif had nine points and brought down 11 rebounds.

UP NEXT: Head Coach Charlie Marquardt and the Lions return to the hardwood on Tuesday, December 3 when they host Holy Family University in a non-ECC battle. The opening tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
