Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Oct. 8, 2013) - On Tuesday evening, the Molloy College women's volleyball squad fell to the University of Bridgeport, 3-0 to see its record change to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in the East Coast Conference. Following the victory, the Purple Knights improved to 6-1 on the season and 5-0 in league play.
The final scores of the three sets in order were: 27-25, 25-17, and 25-23.
Down 22-20 in the opening set, the Lions found four straight points to grab a 24-22 lead. Two of those points came on service aces from senior
Euginia Anthony (Jamaica, N.Y.). The rest of the set went back and forth, with Bridgeport edging out Molloy, 27-25.
The second set was fairly close the entire time up until the Purple Knights popped off a 7-2 run to end the set and grab a 25-17 victory. Down 14-8, the Lions put together an 11-2 run to take a 19-16 lead. The burst consisted of a variety of everything: kills, service errors, and ball-handling errors. Molloy changed the score to 24-23, down by just one point. Ying Shen, however, recorded a kill to give the Purple Knights their 25th point and the match-win.
For the Lions, junior
Sam Berna (Massapequa, N.Y.) notched nine kills, while rookie
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) distributed 14 assists. Anthony had 10 digs.
