Box Score OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2013) - On Halloween night, the Molloy College women's volleyball team traveled to Old Westbury, N.Y. for an East Coast Conference affair with the New York Institute of Technology. The Bears' .405 attack percentage aided them in securing a 3-0 win over the Lions. NYIT improved to 21-4 overall and 9-3 in the league. Meanwhile, following the defeat, Molloy slipped to 9-15 on the season and 3-8 in the ECC.
Halfway through the opening set, the two squads were tied at 11-11. Even afterwards, Molloy only trailed NYIT 20-18. That luck would run out as the Bears reeled off five consecutive points, with the final four coming on Molloy attacking errors. NYIT took set number one, 25-18.
In the middle set, the Lions hung with their hosts as the score was 12-10 in favor of NYIT halfway through. A subsequent 4-1 spurt from the Bears helped give NYIT some distance from its opponent. A 4-0 and 4-1 run in the latter part of the second set would help seal the 25-18 victory for NYIT.
In the third set, NYIT jumped out to a 3-0 lead, which would be indicative of the rest of the set. The Lions would only get to within three points of the tie before the Bears eventually locked down a 10-point win (25-15).
For Molloy, the attacking group struggled, posting a .022 hitting percentage. Rookie
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) had 21 assists, while fellow newcomer
Lauren Williams (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had 10 digs.
