Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2013) - On Thursday evening, the Molloy College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to East Coast Conference-foe Mercy College at the Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 9-12 overall and 2-8 in league play, while the Lions slipped to 9-13 on the year and 3-6 in the ECC.
The Mavericks won the three sets by scores of: 25-20, 25-21, and 25-18.
The Lions were never really able to find any sort of rhythm in this match. In the middle set, despite opening the action up with 10 straight points, the Mavericks stormed back to eventually grab the lead. Molloy had this happen in the first set as well, as they jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage, but were unable to sustain.
For Molloy, junior
Shannon Appel (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) led the team with 11 kills, while rookie setter
Alley Stefanovski (North Chili, N.Y.) had 26 assists. Freshman
Lauren Williams (Lake Grove, N.Y.) did a fine job once again filling in for an injured
Euginia Anthony (Jamaica, N.Y.). As the team's libero, Williams scooped up 14 digs. Sophomore
Cassie Palmer (Norwalk, Calif.) had nine digs.
For the Mavericks, junior Brenna White and senior Nicolette Gebhardt tied for the match-high in kills (14), while junior setter McKenna Ronan distributed a match-best 35 assists. Senior libero Mallorie Hopkins, freshman Floriana Rraci, and Ronan all combined for 40 digs, with Hopkins compiling half of them.
Head Coach
Billy Corrao and the Lions return to action on Tuesday, October 29 when they host ECC-opponent Queens (N.Y.) College at 6 p.m. If you're unable to attend the game, www.MolloyLions.com will carry a complete audio and video broadcast, as well as LiveStats.
