Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2013) - Molloy College senior
Dan Brown (Queens, N.Y.) scored in the second minute of the game to give the Lions' men's soccer team a quick lead over the top-ranked team in the country, East Coast Conference-opponent LIU Post. That 1-0 advantage would last for 71 minutes as Molloy saw the light at the end of the tunnel nearing -- inching closer to knocking off and shocking the best squad in all of Division II. However, Eivind Austboe scored his 17th goal of the season in the 73rd minute to knot the score at 1-1. He wasn't finished, as Austboe struck again 10 minutes later for the go-ahead tally. The Pioneers held onto that slim 2-1 lead in the ensuing seven minutes to improve their record to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the ECC.
With the loss, the Lions dropped to 4-7-2 on the year and 2-3-2 in league play.
Brown scored off a feed from senior
Tom Garcia (Westbury, N.Y.). The Queens native touched the ball and placed it into the right post of the goal for the Lions' lone marker. While the shot difference was large (LIU Post led, 21-8), the shots-on-goal tally was close (Pioneers led 7-5).
Johann Kristjansson assisted on Austboe's first goal, while Johannes Forgaard helped on his second.
In net, Molloy junior
Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.) stopped five shots, while Marco Jorgensen had four saves for LIU Post.
Head Coach
Danny Longo and the Lions return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they play at ECC-rival Mercy College (8-3-1, 3-2 ECC). The game gets underway at 3 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
