CHAVE'S STRONG PERFORMANCE LIFTS VOLLEYBALL OVER BLOOMFIELD, 3-0

Box Score vs. Bloomfield - September 13, 2008

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2008) - Junior right-side hitter Catherine Chave (Stony Brook, N.Y.) put down a game-high eight kills and five block assists after coming off the bench on Saturday as the Molloy College volleyball team rolled past Bloomfield College, 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-18), at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The Lions have now won three of their last four matches (3-4). As for the Deacons, they fell to 2-4 overall.

Sophomore setter Kara Kerley (Wantagh, N.Y.) set a game-high 27 assists, while junior libero Monika Rodziewicz (Gdansk, Poland) totaled 16 digs, which led all players as well. Freshman outside hitter/middle hitter Angelica Nicalek (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had another solid day as she notched seven digs and six kills. She also served up one ace for Molloy.

Freshman middle hitter Catherine Russini (Westbury, N.Y.) and sophomore right-side hitter Tina King (Point Lookout, N.Y.) added three kills apiece. Sophomore outside hitter Meaghan Meyer (East Meadow, N.Y.) collected seven kills and three block assists. Senior libero/setter Danielle Sekesan (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned eight digs with an ace and assist.

Bloomfield was led by senior setter Sonia Perez (Mount Holly, N.J.), who pieced together a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs. She also served up four aces. Senior Brunna Coutinho (Recife, Brazil) had a team-high 13 digs with four kills. Freshman outside hitter Uerequenia Pereira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) contributed four kills and four digs, while senior outside hitter Celeste Lindsey (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted five kills and two digs.

The Lions held a 31-20 advantage in kills and a 30-17 margin in assists, while the Deacons owned a 48-46 edge in digs. Molloy also out-hit Bloomfield in all three games. Overall, MC compiled an attack percentage of .114 (31 K, 19 E, 105 TA). As for Bloomfield, it hit -.094 (20 K, 30 E, 106 TA) on the afternoon.

Head Coach Kevin Quiambao and the Lions return to the court this Tuesday when they travel to Old Westbury, N.Y. to take on the New York Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference match-up. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
