BROOKVILLE, NY- Senior
Chris Irwin (Mahopac, NY) broke the Molloy College
school record for career RBI after notching five during the 10-6
loss to the Pioneers of C.W. Post on May 7 in the first round of
the ECC Tournament. Irwin now holds the career RBI record
with 136 RBI surpassing Ken Snipp who had 131 career RBI from
2000-03. With the loss, the Lions have been eliminated from
the Tournament, while the Pioneers will face the University of New
Haven on May 9. Molloy will wait to see if they will be part
of the 2008 ECAC tournament.
The Pioneers struck early as they posted five runs during the
first inning. They added three runs in the second and
extended their advantage to eight (8-0).
Irwin recorded his first RBI of the game in the
third inning and Molloy was down, 8-1. A sacrifice fly by
Irwin brought in sophomore T.J. Greig
(Staten Island, NY) during the sixth but C.W. Post
answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs and took the
10-2 edge. During the seventh inning, junior Patrick
Walsh (Bellmore, NY) knocked in freshman Robert
LaRusso (Bayside, NY) but Molloy still held the 10-3
deficit. A bases clearing double by Irwin in
the ninth cut the Lions disadvantage to four (10-6) but Molloy ran
out of outs. Senior Tim Byrne (North Massapequa,
NY) picked up the loss on the mound for the Lions.
