In his role, Zegers is responsible for the direction of all phases of the sports medicine program for all of Molloy's 18 NCAA varsity programs and six club teams while also working primarily with the men's soccer and baseball teams.

Prior to making his return to Molloy, Zegers served a four-year stint as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Adelphi University. In his time with the Panthers, Zegers pre-dominantly worked with the men’s basketball, lacrosse, baseball and Division I men’s soccer programs. He also earned a Master’s degree in exercise physiology from Adelphi, while holding the positions of Student Athletic Training Director, and Associate Director of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

In addition to his responsibilities at the collegiate level, Zegers has volunteered as an Athletic Trainer for the Boomer Esiason Foundation/Outback Steakhouse Empire Challenge. The Boomer Esiason Foundation provides financial assistance to research and combat cystic fibrosis, a progressive and debilitating disease affecting 30,000 people in the United States, starting in their childhood years. For his efforts, Zegers received the Michael Brennan Spirit Award in 2006, which is awarded to a person, who exemplifies the spirit of the cause.

His other athletic training experience includes a one-year internship with the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society, and a two-year stint as a physical therapy aide and athletic trainer at Garden City Physical Therapy. With the PBATS, Zegers spent the 1997 campaign in the dugout and clubhouse with the New York Mets Baseball Club.

Zegers received his bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Molloy in 1997. He was also a member of the Lions’ baseball team for four seasons. On the hill for Molloy, Zegers garnered the Most Valuable Pitcher Award in his junior and senior campaigns.

Zegers, who is a licensed New York State Athletic Trainer, is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). He is also certified in first aid, CPR, AED, and professional rescuing by the American Heart Association.
