Kovel joined the baseball coaching staff ahead of the 2026 campaign as the Pitching Coach.
In his first season at the helm of the pitching staff, the Lions finished second in Division II in team ERA (3.71) and WHIP (1.28) while striking out a program record 416 and holding opposing lineups to hitting a program record .226. From the staff, Molloy garnered four All-Conference First Team pitchers including the league's Pitcher of the Year, four All-Region honors across three organizations alongside the East Region Pitcher of the Year, and one All-American.
A native of Merrick, Kovel competed on the Division I level at Fordham University and University of Pittsburgh. In four years as a Ram, Kovel developed into the programs premier relief pitcher appearing in 65 contests across 107.2 innings striking out 108 while collecting 13 saves. Kovel ranks seventh all-time in program history in saves and 14th in appearances.
