Robert Schmitt joined the women's lacrosse program ahead of the 2023 season.
Schmitt brings to the Lions a wealth of coaching experience spanning over two decades. Most recently, he served as the Director of Girls Lacrosse for FLG Lacrosse where he was in charge of curriculum development and implementation for select teams and helped players through the college recruitment process. He also served as a head coach of one of FLG's teams and spent time as an assistant with the SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse program (NCAA Division III).
In addition, Schmitt worked with a number of youth lacrosse organizations in a coaching capacity including Long Island TOGZ Girls Lacrosse Club, Hempstead PAL, Levittown PAL, East Meadow PAL, Turnpike Lax, Long Island Jesters, and Northport High School.
Off the field, Schmitt gives back as a member of the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, where he assists in the selection process for scholarships benefiting minority high school lacrosse players.
He holds a Bachelor's in history from SUNY Cortland, where he played on the men's lacrosse team, a Master's in history from SUNY Stony Brook, and teaching certifications from Dowling College.
