Messina joined the baseball coaching staff ahead of the 2022 campaign.
A five-year member of the maroon and white, the infielder appeared in over 150 games, averaging .307 with 120 runs scored, 165 hits, 20 doubles, eight triples, five home runs, and 74 RBI. A two-year captain, Messina was an All-Conference member of the 2021 East Coast Conference Championship team.
Messina has coached a number of youth baseball camps, including serving as the head coach of the Sharks Baseball Academy in 2020, working with a variety of ages on fundamental skills while also managing the logistics of scheduling and practice plans. In the summer of 2021, he also spent a season as the first assistant with the Westhampton Aviators.
Upon graduating from Molloy with a BA/MS in adolescent education with a concentration in social studies as well as special education adolescence, Messina was hired by Island Trees High School as a permanent substitute teacher.
