The 2009-10 women's basketball team won the program's second East Coast Conference Championship in a span of three years with a 49-42 victory over the University of Bridgeport. Selected fifth in the NCAA East Regional Tournament, the squad made history and became, at that point, the most successful team in the program's history with a dominant 52-36 victory over #4 Pace University. The Lions eventually fell in the Regional Semifinals with a season record of 22-8.

The team's head coach, Tim O'Hagan, was tabbed Coach of the Year by the ECC and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association for his efforts. Senior standouts Kymira Woodberry and E.J. Dreyer were each also recognized by the ECC and MBWA with Woodberry being named First Team by both organizations while Dreyer received Second Team selection.
