Dominick “Dom” Toscano made quite an impact on the men’s lacrosse program at Molloy College while a member of the Lions from 2004-07. Prior to Molloy, Toscano graduated from Plainedge High School in 2003. While at Plainedge, Toscano played soccer, roller hockey and lacrosse, captaining all three squads. After reaching out to Molloy in the winter of his senior year, Toscano made Plainedge history as he was the first player from his high school to be recruited
for collegiate lacrosse.
Toscano’s first year at Molloy was where he instantly gelled with his teammates, forging friendships that last to this day. He was part of the largest recruiting class for Molloy Lacrosse in five years. In 2005, he was a member of one of the most successful teams in program history as the Lions finished with a 12-4 record and won the ECAC Championship versus Dowling College.
Toscano identifies some of his most memorable moments at Molloy on the team’s spring break trips to North Carolina, weekend trips to Boston and all the bus rides in between. He cited these opportunities to bond as a team as something that helped make the Lions stronger as a unit on the field of play. Another aspect of his tenure at Molloy that added to his positive experience were the fans as he referred to them: “the best in the world.”
Regardless of individual or team accomplishments, and there were many, Toscano still remembers the last game of his career most vividly. It unfortunately ended in a double-overtime loss to the New York Institute of Technology. While it was a tough loss, Toscano appreciates the magnitude of the level of competition he was able to play against and with.
On the lacrosse field at Molloy, Toscano’s most impressive accolade came in 2007 when he was named to the All-American Second Team by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. He also was selected in 2007 as a Scholar All-American, to the East Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, and to the All-ECC Second Team, while ranking in the program’s record book’s top 10 in 11 different statistical categories. Most notably, Toscano’s 10 goals against Pace University on April 4, 2006 ranks first all-time for a single game. He also ranks second in program history in goals-per-game in a single season (3.31 in 2006), career goals (132), career points (166), and career shots (298). Moreover, he is the owner of first place in the single season record book for shots-on-goal per game (5.08 in 2006).
While Toscano joined a new family in 2004 when he became a member of the Molloy men’s lacrosse program, it was also an honor for him knowing that his siblings also played lacrosse for the Lions. His brother, Daniel, and sister, Alexa, were also captains of their respective teams at Molloy.
Toscano earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management in 2007. After graduation, he took a position at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in its management trainee program. Toscano acknowledges his Molloy education as helping him move quickly into the role of assistant manager and within 2 ½ years, he was running his own Enterprise branch.
While having much success at Enterprise, Toscano still yearned for something more. In 2010, he decided to return to Molloy for a master’s degree in Childhood and Special Education. While completing his graduate study, he worked at the Hagedorn Little Village School in Seaford, Long Island helping children who struggled with a variety of disabilities. Going back to school also gave Toscano a chance to get back into the world of lacrosse, which he had missed since that final game. Toscano took a position as the head coach of the Plainedge junior varsity boys’ lacrosse team. He was able to
give back to the community that he grew up in and help develop the next crop of lacrosse players to come out of his alma mater.
In September 2013, with his master’s degree from Molloy completed, Toscano accepted his first teaching job in the New York City Department of Education as a Special Education teacher in Bellerose, Queens.
