Women's Basketball Downs Roberts Wesleyan

Rochester, N.Y. - The women's basketball team capped off a long road trip with a dominant 85-65 victory over the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University. The win sets the Lions at 10-14 on the season and 8-4 in East Coast Conference play headed into the final two week stretch of the regular season. 

How it Happened
  • The Lions were effective from the field all night, shooting at 50 percent. The offense went right to work in the opening frame, shooting at nearly a 60 percent clip. 
  • Two three-pointers and a steal from senior Rosa Rizzitelli that set up a fast break layup from sophomore Jamie Davneiro gave Molloy a 22-11 lead late in the opening quarter. 
  • Foul shots from freshman Sharmeela Ugbogbo and senior Sophia Yearwood kept the double digit lead to end the quarter, 26-15. 
  • Molloy held Roberts Wesleyan to just eight points in the second quarter, leading 48-23 at the half.
  • A seven-point run opened the third quarter in favor of the Lions, who extended the lead to over 30 points.
  • The Redhawks were unable to cut the deficit to under 20 in the remaining 20 minutes of play. 
Top Performances
  • Senior Colleen McCullagh led with 21 points, shooting 9-of-12, to go with eight rebounds and two assists. 
  • Rizzitelli followed with 17 points on a 6-of-7 afternoon including three three-pointers. The senior added nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. 
  • Ugbogbo tallied 13 points and added six boards.
  • Sophomore Grace Trotta netted 10 points while Yearwood added seven to go with six assists. 
  • Sophomore Emma Poland set a career-high six blocks to go with five points and two assists.
  • Davneiro and freshman Kailyn Paulino Rosario each scored six with Davneri adding four assists and two steals.
Up Next
Molloy will return to Rockville Centre on Wedneday (Feb. 18) for a matchup with the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College at 5:00 p.m.
