Women's Lacrosse Ends Regular Season in Big Win at STAC

Sparkill, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team closed the regular season with a dominant win over St. Thomas Aquinas College this afternoon, 21-7, from Spartan Field. The team's seventh-straight win sets Molloy at an even 8-8 on the season and 5-1 in East Coast Conference play while STAC falls to 5-13 (1-5 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The Lions opened the contest with a stretch of seven-straight goals, including three from senior Sofia Quitoni and two from senior Alessandra Borsellino.
  • Katelyn Cerrato broke up the streak, but Molloy would score four more times in the first 15 minutes ot play to lead 11-1.
  • Freshman Ava Benasutti had two goals after one quarter of play. Quitoni tallied four.
  • The Spartans would score once more in the first half to end the quarter with Molloy ahead, 11-2.
  • The visitors shut out STAC in the second quarter, including two more goals from Benasutti. Senior Megan Rugolo also added her second of the contest before halftime to make it 16-2 at the break.
  • Goals from Borsellino, Benasutti, freshman Emma Ryan, and senior Brenna Signorelli in the third frame gave all four a multi-goal afternoon and lifted the Lions to a 20-2 lead.
  • STAC would score the next five in a row to make it 20-7 headed into the final two minutes of play.
  • Freshman Cameron Thompson netted her first career goal in the final minute to round out the scoring.
Top Performances
  • Borsellino added three assists to her three goals for six points. All three are new career-best marks for the midfielder, who also tallied three ground balls.
  • Benasutti netted a career-high five goals.
  • Senior Alexa Amorison topped the team with three assists and adding one goal of her own for four points to go with three ground balls.
  • Quitoni tallied four goals on the afternoon.
  • Signorelli and Rugolo each scored twice and added an assist. Rugolo topped the team with nine draw controls.
  • Ryan scored twice with Thompson and sophomore Brooke Grossjung each adding the final goals of the afternoon.
  • Senior Carly Howell joined Amorison and Borsellino with a team-leading three ground balls.
  • Howell, Rugolo, Signorelli, Ryan, senior Reilly Brady, and freshman Ryleigh Zamora all forced a turnover.
  • Zamora also added five draw controls while Borsellino and junior Olivia Ingenito each had two.
  • Sophomore Nicole Schaumloffel made three saves while sophomore Samantha Heuer made two.
Up Next
Molloy will compete in the 2025 East Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament next week. The semifinal is slated for Wednesday, April 30. The Lions will await the result of Roberts Wesleyan and Mercy's game tomorrow afternoon to determine the final seeding as well as the time and location of Wednesday's game.
