Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team hosted the tenth-ranked Golden Rams of West Chester Wednesday afternoon at Mitchel Field. After a tightknit contest, a four run tenth for the visitors would clinch the victory, 6-2. Following the loss, the Lions move to 15-11 while the Golden Rams improve to 23-5.
How it Happened
- After a scoreless first, the Golden Rams got on the board after Caleb Strawhecker drove an RBI double into left field.
- Both teams would be held scoreless through four innings, as pitching and defense would be the name of the game.
- West Chester threatened to extend its lead in the top of the fifth, leading off the inning with a double, but senior JC Kiss would record three straight outs on four pitches to escape the jam.
- In the bottom of the frame the Lions were able to break through. After freshman Steve Mulqueen and junior Sean Welsh advanced to second and third following a wild pitch, senior Patrick Sanchez knocked them home with a single up the middle to put Molloy in front, 2-1.
- The lead was short lived as the visitors were able to scratch a run across in the top of the sixth to bring the contest back to all square, 2-2.
- Through the seventh and eighth inning, redshirt junior Sean Mileti and West Chester reliever Ben Jones were spotless across the board, keeping the contest tied at two going into the ninth.
- In the final frame, the Golden Rams capitalized on three Molloy errors to score four runs to reclaim its lead, 6-2, where it would stay to solidify the victory.
