Pleasantville, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team began a four-game series against the Pace University Setters Thursday afternoon falling, 5-1, at Peter X. Finnerty Field. Molloy moves to 21-14 on the season, while Pace improves to 18-16.
How it Happened
- After two innings of scoreless baseball, Pace got on the board in the bottom of the third following a two-run home run from Andrew Heppner.
- Molloy looked to crack the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning putting runners on the corners with two outs, but the Setters would close the inning with a ground out to halt the rally.
- The Lions got on the board in the fifth, after graduate student Aidan Larkin brought senior Thomas Lebrecht home with a ground out to bring the squad within one, 2-1.
- Following the RBI ground out, Molloy was left with runners on second and third with one away, but once again Pace would wiggle out of the jam converting a strikeout and a fly out to end the frame.
- From the sixth inning through the final out, the Lions were held to two base runners for the remainder of the contest while the Setters tacked on three insurance runs, scoring one in the seventh and two in the eighth to go on and secure the victory, 5-1.
