Women’s Basketball Season Comes To A Close in ECC Semifinal

Amherst, N.Y. – The fifth-seeded Molloy women's basketball team fell to the top-seeded Wildcats of Daemen University Saturday afternoon inside Lumsden Gymnasium. Molloy concludes the season 16-15 overall.

How it Happened
  • Daemen kicked off the opening 2:20 with an 8-0 run.
  • Junior Colleen McCullagh snapped the run with a three-point play to get the Lions on the board, 8-3, midway through the first quarter.
  • Over the next three minutes of action, the Wildcats put together a 8-1 rally to extend its lead to 12, 16-4, with 2:28 in the first stanza.
  • 17 seconds later, a three-point field goal from junior Sophia Yearwood shrunk the deficit to single digits, 16-7, but Daemen would net the final three points of the quarter to take a 19-7 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Wildcats kept the pedal to the metal to begin the second stanza, putting together a 9-0 run in 2:58 of game time to open a 21-point lead, 28-7.
  • Daemen would maintain its 20-point lead for the remainder of the first half, getting its lead to as much as 24 before heading into halftime ahead, 36-17.
  • The home team kept its 20-point lead for the entire second half, held the Lions to just seven field goals and would go on to claim the victory, 62-44.
Top Performances
  • Yearwood led the Lions with 12 points off of four three-point field goals.
  • Senior Samantha Muller paced the squad with 11 rebounds, eight of them on the defensive glass and three steals.
  • Junior Casey Campo netted eight points.
