Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The baseball team rallied for an 8-6 victory over Mercy in the opening game of a four-game series this afternoon from Mercy Field. The win puts Molloy at 14-8 on the season and 4-1 in East Coast Conference play while the Mavericks now sit at 15-13 (2-3 ECC) following the loss.
How it Happened
- Back-to-back walks to junior Sean Welsh and junior Sean Seranno put runners on first and second to start the contest.Â
- A double steal put both runners into scoring position before Welsh stole his third bag of the contest to give Molloy a 1-0 lead.
- Senior Nicholas Dagnello doubled the lead two batter later with a sacrifice fly to left field.
- Sophomore James Sill allowed the Mavericks just two hits in the opening two innings before a home run from Welsh increased Molloy's lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
- Dagnello walked to lead off the fifth inning before senior Patrick Sanchez doubled down the line to put runners on the corners. A fielding error by Mercy scored both players to make it 5-0.
- The Mavericks were retired in order from the third to fifth innings before cracking the scoreboard in the sixth.
- A hit by pitch and double put two runners in scoring position and allowed the home team to come within three, 5-2, following an RBI ground out and an RBI single to the outfield.
- A walk and three singles in the seventh played two more runs to make it a one-run game, 5-4.
- The Mavericks took the lead, 6-5, in the eighth inning on the back of a single, triple, and sacrifice fly.
- Sophomore Charlie Imhof walked to start the ninth inning with the Lions needing at least one run to tie the game.Â
- Welsh drew his second walk of the contest to put two runners on.Â
- Serrano's single to right field plated Imhof and knotted the score.Â
- Graduate student Aidan Larkin drove in Welsh with a ground out before a single to Dagnello added an insurance run for the Lions.
- Sophomore Thomas Charlwood was given the ninth inning to work, allowing one hit and one walk but earned the save with a strikeout to end the game.

- Welsh and Sanchez each had two hits with Welsh scoring three runs and stealing three bases.
