Dusharme Drives in Five Runs in Softball Split Against SCSU

Melbourne, Fla.- The softball team kicked off the Space Coast Games with a split in a doubleheader against Southern Connecticut State University this afternoon, falling 9-1 in game one, and bouncing back in game two to win 9-3. The Lions sit at 4-4 and the Owls are 6-2 on the season.

How it Happened

  • Senior Natalie Moussa struck out three batters through the first three innings of the contest.
  • Southern Connecticut's Rachel Miller sparked a fourth-inning rally with a lead off double, followed by three more doubles and a single that drove in four runs for the Owls.
  • A throwing error allowed another run to score before a two-RBI single extended the home team's lead to 7-0.
  • Freshman Casey Kissinger put her team on the board, scoring on sophomore Amaya Page's fielder's choice in the top of the fifth.
  • The Owls took advantage of a fielding error before a double to center field placed runners on the corners in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • A sacrifice fly and an RBI single sealed a 9-1 win for Southern Connecticut via the run rule.

How it Happened
  • Montgomery reached first on a hit-by-pitch to start the game, then stole second.
  • Dusharme put the Lions on the board first with an RBI double to right field.
  • In the third inning, Montgomery walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Dusharme's infield single, doubling Molloy's lead.
  • Junior Emily McGurk stole second before Wegel's triple to center field brought in another run.
  • Dabbadie followed with a double to center field, scoring Wegel, and freshman Gwen Woodsit's single moved her to third.
  • An RBI single from Savage extended the lead to 5-0 heading into the fourth inning.
  • Kissinger led off the fourth with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Montgomery's infield single moved her to third before Dusharme's sacrifice fly made it a 6-0 game.
  • Southern Connecticut responded in the fifth with a double and a single, putting runners on the corners before a sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 6-1.
  • An RBI single in the sixth brought the Owls closer at 6-2.
  • Kissinger started the bottom of the sixth with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Montgomery.
  • Moussa's double and Dusharme's RBI single brought in two runs, followed by Wegel's single and Dabbadie's double to left, widening the gap to 9-2.
  • In the seventh, a single and a walk set up a scoring opportunity for the Owls, and a wild pitch loaded the bases. A run-scoring single made it 9-3, but McGurk's crucial defensive play sealed the victory.
