Seven-Run Tenth Inning Leads No. 22 Baseball Past Bentley

Boca Raton, Fla. – In its second straight extra innings affair against the Falcons of Bentley University, the 22nd-ranked Molloy baseball came out the victors, 12-5, in 10 innings at Lynn University. The Lions improve to 7-5, while the Falcons move to 8-6.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first inning, Molloy got on the board with a run scoring on a fielder's choice in the top of the second
  • In the top of the third with runners on first and second, graduate student Aidan Larkin connected and deposited the ball over the left field fence for a three-run home run to add to the lead, 4-0.
  • The cardinal and white took a 5-0 lead two innings later following an RBI single from senior Patrick Sanchez.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, an RBI double and single from the Falcons cut the deficit to three, 5-2.
  • Bentley continued to keep the pressure on in the sixth inning, netting a run following an infield single to cut the lead to two, 5-3.
  • The bottom of the seventh saw the Falcons knot the contest at five, following a pair of bases loaded walks to bring in a run each.
  • The two squads would head to extra innings after neither team could scratch a run across in the ninth inning.
  • Molloy exploded in the 10th inning to rally seven runs. Junior Sean Serrano got it started with a two-run single with the bases loaded. Two batters later, junior Sean Welsh drove in sophomore Anthony Marsillo with a single to center.
  • Sophomore James Sill drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in the fourth run of the inning,senior Nicholas Dagnello followed Sill with a two-run single through the right side, and junior Jack Coogan capped the inning with a single to score Sill, giving the Lions a 12-5 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the 10th, the Falcons would put two runners on but sophomore Thomas Charlwood closed the door to secure the 12-5 victory.
Top Performances
  • Larkin collected his first homer of the season as part of a three-hit game, scored three runs, drove in three runs, and stole a base.
  • Sanchez tallied three hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
  • Welsh added two hits, two runs, one RBI, and one stolen base.
  • Coogan, Dagnello, and Serrano each drove in two runs.
  • Graduate student Ryan Hynes got the start on the hill, pitching five innings allowing five hits, two runs, and striking out three.
  • Charlwood picked up his first win of his collegiate career. The sophomore tossed the final three innings of scoreless baseball in relief scattering two hits and striking out one.

Molloy will have five days before they return home to take on Franklin Pierce in a doubleheader at Mitchel Field Saturday, March 15. First pitch of the twin bill is set for 12:00 p.m.
