No. 22/29 Baseball Wraps Up Myrtle Beach Weekend With Victory Over Post

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The No. 22/29 Molloy baseball team saw five collect a multi-hit game and three total multi-RBIs as they defeated the Eagles of Post University, 8-3, Sunday morning on Griffith Field at the Ripken Experience. The Lions improve to 3-1 on the campaign, while the Eagles move to 0-5.

How it Happened

  • In the bottom of the third Molloy started to find its stride getting runners on first and second with one out. Graduate student Aidan Larkin began the scoring in the frame with a single through the left side to score sophomore Joe Burriesci.
  • Still in the third frame following a balk to put two runners in scoring position, junior Sean Weslh ripped a single to left field that plated the pair of runners to give the Lions a 3-0 lead after three innings of action.
  • The cardinal and white used aggressive base running to plate a run in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Jack Coogan broke to third on a steal and came around to score following a throwing error by the Eagles catcher to extend the lead, 4-0.
  • In the top of the fifth, Post got on the board following an RBI double to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.
  • Molloy responded in the bottom of the sixth, senior Patrick Sanchez roped a triple over the center fielders head to score Burriesci and junior Sean Serrano to open a 6-1 lead.
  • Larkin scored Sanchez a moment later following a sacrifice fly adding to the Molloy lead, 7-1.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, the Lions tacked on its last run of the contest with a run scoring following a fielder's choice to increase its lead, 8-1.
  • The Eagles added two runs in the top of the eighth following a run scoring double and a run coming in of a passed ball to come within five, 8-3.
