Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Mavericks of Mercy University, 65-58, Saturday afternoon inside Neil Judge Student Athlete Center. The Lions move to 13-14 overall and 6-8 in East Coast Conference play, while the Mavericks improve to 16-9 overall and 10-5 in league play.
How it Happened
- Mercy began the contest on a 11-2 run, shooting five-for-five from the field and forcing two Molloy turnovers.
- The Lions outscored the Mavericks 11-8 for the remainder of the quarter while shooting 71 percent from the floor. Molloy trailed, 19-13, going into the second quarter.
- As a second quarter began, juniors Casey Campo and Rosa Rizzitelli netted back-to-back buckets to get Molloy within four, 21-17.
- The cardinal and white would hang tight with Mercy throughout the stanza, but the Mavericks would open up a 10-point lead three times throughout the quarter and head into halftime ahead, 33-23.
- In the third quarter, the home team controlled the tempo keeping its double-digit lead while opening its lead to as much as 16. Molloy trailed, 50-36, heading into the fourth quarter.
- 1:05 into the final stanza, the Mavericks took its largest lead of the contest, 55-38.
- Over the next five minutes of action, the cardinal and white found its footing and put together a 10-1 rally while forcing four turnovers. Rizzitelli led the run with six points to get Molloy within, eight, 56-48, with 3:23 remaining on the scoreboard.
- The home team took the Lions' best shot and charged forward, reclaiming its double-digit lead, 62-51, with under a minute remaining and would go on to close the game ahead, 65-58.
