Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The second-seeded Molloy women's soccer team fell to the third-seeded Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks, 2-1, in the Semifinal of the East Coast Conference Championship. As a result, Molloy ends the season 11-3-4 while the Redhawks advance to the ECC Final with a record of 10-3-4.
How it Happened
- 4:08 into the contest, junior Madison Keenan recorded the games first shot on goal with a header that was saved by Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper Mia Tyndell.
- In the 16th minute the Redhawks converted on a free kick after Jenna Northup settled down the ball and snuck it into the net to put the visitors ahead, 1-0.
- The Lions attempted to knot the game at one with a free kick chance in the 18th minute, but once again Keenan would have her header denied by Tyndell.
- In the 31st minute Northup created a chance to score again, but Molloy goalkeeper junior Elyse Muñoz made the save.
- The 35th minute saw freshman Gianna Zawol look for the game's equalizer, but her shot would be saved without a rebound.
- The road team put together a pair of shots on goal in the final five minutes of the opening stanza that would be saved by Muñoz, sending the contest into halftime with the Redhawks in front, 1-0.
- Five minutes into the second half, Muñoz was forced to make a save after a shot by Mackenzie Hagen.
- In the 55th minute, sophomore Bella Juliano sent in a free kick to the 18-yard box that was buried by sophomore Jana Strait to bring the contest back to all square, 1-1.
- In the 61st minute, Molloy converted on another free kick with a header from sophomore Sarah Cavallo, but the play was called offside to keep the contest tied.
- The 66th minute saw Roberts Wesleyan put together two high quality scoring chances. The first chance from Nevaeh Bunch was saved by sophomore Megahn Wetzel at the back post and 21 seconds later, Muñoz denied a shot from Cami Bresci.
- Junior Isabella Muro streaked down the midfield with a head of steam in the 73rd minute to generate a scoring chance, but her shot would go just wide of the far post.
- Senior Olivia Ingenito snuck past the backline of the defense in the 81st minute and lined up a shot with Tyndell off her line, but her shot would go high of the crossbar.
- In the 89th minute, Hagen looked to give Roberts Wesleyan the game winner, but her shot went wide, the contest would head to a golden goal overtime period.
- 2:33 into overtime, Roberts Wesleyan clinched the victory, 2-1, after a free kick goal from Brescia that deflected off a pair of Molloy defenders and across the goal line.
