Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team put together a six-goal fourth quarter to top the Lions of Georgian Court University, 13-8, this evening from John A. Darcy Field at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex. The victory lifts the cardinal and white to 7-8 on the season while GCU falls to 8-7 in the loss.
How it Happened
- The offense was quick to establish a lead with goals from seniors Jack Herzlinger and Chris Delaney as well as sophomore Justin Palulis giving the home team a 3-0 advantage less than five minutes into the contest.
- Matt Dorrian got the visiting Lions on the board to end the first quarter. A goal from Doug Mackenzie would start the second quarter and make it a one-goal game.
- Herzlinger netted his second unassisted tally of the evening four minutes into the second frame before GCU once again would come within one.Â
- A poor pass from the Lions from New Jersey would result in an own goal and re-establish the two-goal lead for Molloy.
- GCU would tie the contest with under four minutes remaining in the half, but junior Tommy Corcoron finished a pass from redshirt freshman Brian Green with 18 seconds left to keep the home team in front at the break, 6-5.
- Palulis would start things off for Molloy in the third quarter, but three-straight unassisted goals from the visitors, including a buzzer-beater from Tallen Smith, would give GCU the 8-7 lead headed into the final 15 minutes of play.
- Herzlinger's third of the evening knotted the game at eight.
- Molloy's offense would shine in the fourth quarter. Herzlinger and Palulis each added additional goals with junior Noah Taylor, and sophomores Konrad Maciejny and Nick Taini each finding the back of the net to make it 13-9.Â
Top Performances
- Palulis (three goals, one assist) and Herzlinger (four goals) each led the Lions with four points, matching a season-best for Herzlinger.
- Green's three assist gave him three points while Taylor, Corcoron, and Delaney all added a goal and an assist for two points.
- Freshman Thomas Gaffney and sophomore Thomas Kofod each added helpers with Kofod picking up five ground balls and forcing two turnovers.
- Sophomore Brandon Pazienza went 12-of-23 on face-off attempts and led with nine ground balls.
- Delaney picked up four ground balls with senior Denver Tveter and sophomore Jaden McLeod each adding three. McLeod led alongside Kofod with two forced turnovers.
- Junior Christian Michaels made 12 stops in net, including three in the fourth quarter, in the victory.
